Richard James Sawdey "Dick", 79, of Torrance, California, died Sunday, January 12, 2014.
Dick was born to the late Jeremiah and Jeannette Sawdey, November 20, 1934, in Torrance, California. Dick graduated from Inglewood High School in 1953 as a Printer Apprentice. Dick is survived by Dorothy Sawdey (Thomas) of Inglewood, California who he married in 1955 as a childhood sweetheart. They resided together in the same home in Torrance, California since 1959.
Dick was a Printer for 61 years, proprietor of his own Print Shop with locations in Hawthorne & Gardena, California most recently known as " A Letterpress Shop". As a successful Linotype Operator, Dick become "Expert" utilizing the Linotype & Letter Press and transitioned to Photo Typesetting. Very well known in the South bay as the "Go to Printer" for Typesetting and Letter Press work.
Dick was an active outdoor enthusiast, loving to fish, hunt, camp and travel enjoying the outdoors. As an avid hunter for Big game and upland birds, Dick enjoyed several hunting trips in places like California, Colorado and Montana. As a fisherman both in freshwater and saltwater, enjoyed trips to Montana, Alaska as well as local and long range ocean fishing from Redondo on the Highliner, San Pedro and San Diego.
Dick enjoyed traveling with his wife Dorothy enjoying adventures to Alaska, Ocean Cruises, and Train trips across the Canada Territory and outdoor adventures to Montana.
Dick is survived by his wife Dorothy, three children: Don Sawdey of Scobey Montana, Dave Sawdey of Murrieta, California and Doreen Schwartz of Hesperia, California. He also is survived by eight grandchildren.

Celebration Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014, at Green Hills Cemetery Chapel. Grave site services will immediately follow. Reception details will be provided at the celebration program.
