70 year resident Richard "Dick" Eldon Beer, only child of Herbert E. Beer and Helen Z. (Brubaker) Beer, born August 17, 1927 in Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles, passed from this earth and returned to God in Heaven on April 28, 2013. Dick spent his childhood years in Los Angeles, attending Los Angeles schools through his sophomore year at Roosevelt High School. In 1943 Dick's family moved to Redondo Beach where Dick attended Redondo Union High School graduating in 1945. Here Dick met the love of his life, Patricia (Ridle) Beer. After graduation Dick joined the U.S. Navy serving in wartime in the Construction Brigade. Dick enjoyed a challenging career as a manager at Hughes Aircraft Corporation where he worked for 35 years retiring in 1989. An avid boater and skier for many decades Dick was one of the original members of the South Bay Outboard Boat and Ski Club. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Patricia J. Beer; his children, Patricia A. Fisher, Richard E. Beer and Roberta L. Hupp; his five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Samantha, Theresa and Avery; and his eight great grandchildren, Danielle, Devon, Colton, Cade, Kendal, Kymber, Jillian and Bethany. Dick's love for his family and life was exceeded only by his great love of and faith in God and his church. May he rest in the arms of his Lord forever. Please join the Beer family in a celebration of Dick Beer's life on Friday, May 3 at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, 301 Avenue D in Redondo Beach. All are welcome. The memorial service will be followed by a private, family interment.
