Rick attended Jordan High School in Long Beach and later completed his GED. While still a teenager, he embarked upon his lifelong profession, FISHING. He first plied his trade in the local waters but soon found his true passion, Alaska fishing. Rick was very proud to be the Captain of a series of fishing boats he owned over the years, all named the Clyde. Although Rick had retired from active fishing many years ago, he still had his hand in the fishing industry until he passed.
Rick was an avid fan of many sports, football and boxing being particular favorites. He enjoyed card games, especially poker and bridge. He was proud of being a Life Master in bridge and enjoyed playing bridge at the Long Beach Bridge Club and online. Rick was also a cat lover, and had several cats after he retired. He once said that his favorite cat Princess, a beautiful Calico, was his best friend.
Rick is survived by his two younger brothers, Robert and John; sister-in-law, Sallie; niece Kimberly and husband Daniel Burch; niece, Amanda and husband Pierce Ellis; grand-nephews, August and Seager Burch; and his cats, Rose, Sammy and Red. Rick loved his family greatly and doted especially on his two nieces and his grand-nephews.
