Renee Mcnett

January 16, 1927 — February 18, 2012

Renee McNett, 85, passed away February 18, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph. Her survivors include her daughters, Kahryn Nix of Phoenix, Lisa Pack (Tom) of Rancho Palos Verdes, and Ann Urquijo of San Pedro, and son, Lee, of Newbury Park, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Renee was born in Keota, OK. She was a graduate of the Detroit Business School and Santa Clara Management Institute. She lived in Detroit for 25 years where she worked in real estate and as a commercial model. She moved with her husband and family to San Pedro in 1969.

Renee was most proud of having been the first woman General Manager of the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce, from 1975 to 1979. An accommodation of her work for the Chamber appeared in the Congregational Record on December 6, 1979.

She was one of the first female volunteers for the city of Seal Beach Police Department. With her usual sense of humor, her only question after completing training was whether or not she would be allowed to wear high heels with her uniform.

Her other accomplishments were many and varied: President of the Professional Women's Business Organization of San Pedro, Secretary of the Los Angeles 15th Council District Advisory Committee. She served on the Boards of Directors of San Pedro Adult School, the San Pedro and Peninsula Hospital, the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency Committee, and the Maritime Club. She was also a member of the San Pedro Civitan Club, the Friends of the Library, Lady Boosters, Harbor Area Police Community Council, San Pedro Historical Society, and the Toberman Settlement House.

Inurnment will be at 2:00 PM on March 1st at Green Hills Mortuary, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Toberman Settlement House, 131 N. Grand Ave., San Pedro, CA, 90731, www.toberman.org .
