Raymond Louis Person

Person, Raymond L., Jr. past away in his sleep the morning of January 2, 2014. Junior (Ray) was 89 years old. Born in Wilmington, North Carolina to Raymond Sr. (Frenchy) and Irene. They, brother Joe (Stanley) and sisters Arlene (Walls) and Charolette (Matthews) predeceased Junior. He was survived by his sister Jeanne (DiGregorio). His wife, Dorothy also passed away before Junior. He is survived by 11 nephews and nieces. All of which were his "favorites". Junior was a member of class of 1942, San Pedro High School. And enough cannot be said of his faithful care team, Paul and Maria. Such devotion and hard work made it possible for Junior to live his last period of his life in his home. From all of his family, thank you for a job well done. What a "team". For more than 50 years Junior was a crew member of various ships. He worked as a bosun and at the "wheel" on the bridge. He sailed around the globe at least 5 times. At 16, he crewed on his first ship in July, 1941, was sunk off Brazil by German sub and was in WWII, Korean War and Vietnam. He retired as bosun of the Lane Victory which currently moored in San Pedro. What a life. So many far away places with strange sounding names.
A celebration of his life will be held at Green Hills Chapel, Western Avenue, San Pedro, at 11 A.M., Saturday, January 25, 2014. If possible, please wear Hawaiian garb.
