Raymond Joseph Gietzen of Rancho Palos Verdes, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 22, 2012 at the age of 83. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by wife Margaret, daughter Mary Bishop, son Joseph Gietzen, daughter-in-law Susie Gietzen, and grandchildren Annie, Joseph, Nicholas, Claire, Jack, Meg and Genevieve. The family is grateful for Rene's compassionate care-giving during Ray's last year. Ray was born in Detroit, Michigan, the middle son in a family of nine. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Bols, and brother, Richard Gietzen. Ray and Margaret celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007 on a cruise with their family. Ray loved talking to people and easily made friends. His outgoing personality contributed to his success as a Sales Representative with Pacific Bell for 30 years. The service will be held at Saint John Fisher Catholic Church, where Ray was a long time parishioner, on Wednesday March 28th at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be made to The Daughters of Mary and Joseph, or The Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers. Ray loved to make people laugh, so please think of him... and SMILE!
