Ray Lee Miller

Ray Lee Miller, the son of Robert Lee Miller and Mable Renolds passed away peacefully on December 20, 2012 at age of 86. Ray was born May 23, 1926 in Wilmington, California. Ray attended Banning High School until the 11th grade. He enlisted into the Navy in 1944 and was a member of the original crew on the USS Lenawee, in October 1944. Ray was an Electrician's Mate Class, USNR. He was a veteran of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged from U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center on June 5, 1946.
Ray attended, Compton College, where he took a variety of engineering courses. During this time, he met Nancy Elizabeth Roberts and they married in 1949. They had two sons, Ken and Cliff.
With great determination, he became Chief of Inspection with Atlantic Richfield Oil Company. The family spent 5 years in Abadan, Iran representing the oil company. They returned in 1963 and Ray continued working for the company for 38 years.
In 1989, Ray married Pat Rawald. They traveled throughout the world via motor-home or tours to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Alaska, China and Mexico.
He is survived by Pat Rawald Miller, sons Ken and Cliff, grandsons Robert (Tammy) and Nathan (Stacy), daughter-in-law Vicky, and three great grandchildren, Nathan Jr., Alyssa and Ella Miller.
In lieu of flowers, Ray's favorite charity was "Packages for Patriots", a San Pedro organization that sends hundreds of 10 pound packages of favored items to our military in Afghanistan. A viewing will be held at Green Hills on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral services will be Friday, December 28, 2012 in the mortuary chapel, with interment to follow in Green Hills Memorial Park.
