Phyllis, 94, passed peacefully in her sleep at home with her son, Ron Samson of Newport Beach and daughter, Rhonda (Michael) Rueter of California City and furry child, Yogi, by her side.
She leaves behind a brother, Les (Barbara) Hargett of San Pedro, niece, Carrie and nephews, Ethan and Kyle, all of San Pedro, six grandchildren, Ron, Jennifer, Paul, Alexandra, Ashley and Miles, and 13 great-grandchildren, Matt, Isabella, Alexia, PJ, Ryan, Kadianne, Savannah, Olivia, Josh, Adriana, Sofia, Mia and Grayson.
Phyllis was born and raised in San Pedro though she resided for a short time in Torrance and graduated from Torrance High School. She worked for the telephone company out of high school and married in 1946 in San Pedro where she settled with her family and she resided for 7l years in the family home they purchased in 1951.
Phyllis danced as a young girl which accounted for her love of dancing as an adult. She was a terrific swing dancer and belonged to the LA Swing Dance Club and spent weekends dancing with her best friend and partner of 30 plus years, Chuck.
Phyllis retired from Cross Pharmacy in San Pedro and began taking yoga lessons. She enjoyed it so much she then taught yoga for many years. Phyllis also had a passion for traveling and went on several cruises which included Egypt, Jerusalem, Spain, Greece, Italy, Panama Canal and several others. Outside of traveling and dancing, she loved reading, gardening and doing jigsaw puzzles. Because of her passion for reading, Phyllis also did volunteer work for the San Pedro Library.
Mom, we love you very much. You are and will be missed.
