Beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Philip D. Oliver was born in Texarkana, Texas October 20, 1931.He was preceded by two sisters, Helen and Margaret. He passed away August 23,2023 in the City of Orange. A long time Torrance resident, he recently relocated to Orange County.
He is survived by son, James Oliver (spouse Linda), daughter, Barbara Maldonado (spouse Sal), and five grandchildren: Kristy Oliver, Lori Carcich (spouse John), Christina Maldonado, Jeffrey Maldonado and Grant Oliver (spouse Miranda). Additionally, he was survived by a long time friend and companion, Ione Kappus.
Philip served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier Kersage. He married Erma Peterson in 1958 and they enjoyed 43 years together before she passed away. He worked for Safeway Grocery stores for close to 40 years. Traveling to many interesting places in the world and U.S. along with countless fishing trips were hobbies he enjoyed. Family get togethers with his extended family were a source of joy for him. He cherished his family and the sentiment was returned by the family. The last three months of his life he had at least one family member visit him every day.
Visitation/viewing will be at Green Hills Cemetery on Friday, September 22 from 4-8. He will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 23 at 9:00 at Green Hills Cemetery in Rancho Palos Verdes 27501 S Western.
