Peter Smoljan was born on the island of Ist in Croatia on August 10, 1931. Peter married Nela Juric on November 18, 1961. Peter died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Murrieta with his great nephew and loving caretaker at his bedside. Peter is survived by his wife, Nela and his sister, Antica. Peter served his country as a member of the border patrol unit during World War II. During his time of duty, Peter received military honors for his time in the service. After coming to the United States Peter was employed as a crew member on local fishing boats in San Pedro. After years of fishing in local waters Peter decided to change professions. Peter was fortunate to gain employment as a longshoreman serving the harbor area. After years on the docks, Peter was hired as a crane operator. Peter was a proud member of ILWU 13. Peter spent many years as an usher at Mary Star of the Sea church. Peter enjoyed playing bocce and card games with his friends. Peter enjoyed taking his daily walks visiting friends in the area. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 3rd 5pm - 9pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel (Rosary begins at 6pm). A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, May 4th at Green Hills Memorial Chapel at 3pm followed by interment.
