Peter J. Skrumbis

Peter James Skrumbis passed away on Nov 29th, 2012 from anaplastic thyroid cancer. He was a beloved husband, cherished father and grandfather, and devoted brother, uncle, and friend.
Pete was born in Los Angeles on January 4th, 1933, the son of Greek immigrants Nicoletta and Dimitri Skrumbis. He graduated from USC in 1955 and was later married to Adrienne Hruntas in 1961. Pete was an esteemed colleague and well-loved history teacher at Westchester High School, having inspired more than a generation of students. After retiring in 1987, he and Adrienne became co-owners of the Sandwich Saloon in San Pedro.
Peter lived a life rich with the abundance of a large family and many friends. His passions included golf, politics, the racetrack, opera and classical music, and USC athletics.
Pete is survived by his wife, Adrienne; his four children, Jim Skrumbis (Dina), Nikki Phillipopoulos (John), Andy Skrumbis (Peggy), and Steven Skrumbis (Christina, Angelina, Dino); his eight grandchildren George and Alexandra Phillipopoulos, Peter and Vanessa Skrumbis, Nicholas and Samantha Skrumbis, and Alexander and Jennifer Skrumbis; his sister, Angie Schwitters (John); as well as cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, December 5th at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. A viewing will be held at the same location on Tuesday, December 4th, from 5:00-7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
