Penny Rahmeyer

Penny Rahmeyer passed away peacefully in her sleep the evening of May 11, 2021 at a care facility in Los Angeles. She was born Minnie Pauline Smith in Dallas, TX in 1928; later that year her family moved to Los Angeles. She attended Dorsey High, graduating in 1946. While attending Inglewood Baptist Church she met Marion Rahmeyer. They fell in love, got married and moved to Torrance where they raised 5 children, Penny and Marion were married for 59 years.

Penny had been living with her daughter, Nancy, in Glassell Park for the last three years.

Penny's greatest joy in life was caring for babies. Over a 45 year career as a foster parent she took care of approximately 140 children, many of whom had special needs. In 2013 El Camino College recognized Penny as one of their Women of Distinction, a program that honors women who have made outstanding contributions to the community.

Marion and their son Les pre-deceased Penny in 2006. She is survived by son Jerry, son Gordon (Deena), daughter Nancy (Whitney) and daughter Diane (Michael). Also surviving her are grandchildren Jef, Taylor, Kristen, Mark, Kurt and great-grand-daughter Caitlin.

Penny Rahmeyer’s service will be Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Torrance First Baptist Church, 2118 W Carson St, Torrance CA 90501.
