Born: January 25, 1911 Passed Away: July 14, 2011
Also Known as Mrs. Flores of 2nd Street, Hermosa Beach.
Paula Estes passed away at the home of her daughter, Edna Nelson on July 14, 2011 at the blessed age of 100 years old. Born Paula Sweitzer Romero to Jesus Romero and Josefa Sweitzer, Paula was a Naturalized Citizen of the United States of America, born in Fronteras, Sonora-Mexico arriving in the U.S. at the age of 6.
Married at the age of 16 to Roberto Flores, together, they had five children; Bertha "Sandy" Flores Abeel, Esther Flores Fernandez, Edna Flores Escobar-Nelson, Robert L. Flores, and Cecelia "Anna" Mracek-Salsido. In 1944, the family relocated from Arizona to Hermosa Beach, California. Shortly thereafter in 1945, her husband, Roberto passed away unexpectedly leaving Paula widowed at the age of 34 to raise her children as a single parent for the next 11 years. In 1956, Paula met and married Kenneth Estes. The two were together until his passing in 2005.
A beautiful lady, loving wife and mother, and a wonderful example of love to all her grandchildren, Paula IS the Matriarch that holds her descendents together as one in Christ. She did not always speak it, but never failed to share her love for God and others by her actions. Her favorite of many songs to sing was the hymn, "I love to tell the story... of Jesus and His love." Her favorite scripture to quote was John 3:16- For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Paula is preceded in death by her parents, and all 5 of her siblings; Lupe Paderes, Edwardo Cawley, Alfonso Romero, Esther Orozco, and Arnoldo Lopez. Paula leaves behind a legacy of love that spans 5 generations and includes her 5 children, 18 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
Though our dear Abuelita Paula is absent from the body, we know she is present with the Lord. We all look forward to the blessed hope of our redemption in Christ Jesus and the day we will be together once again. Farewell Paula, our Treasure from Fronteras.
