Our beloved Paul Junior Neuman went home to be with the LORD on December 14, 2022. Paul was born on April 21, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to Paul and Mary Neuman. He is survived by his sister, Bernice Short; his two children: Diane (Greg) and Paul (Brandy); his grandchildren: Justin (Heather), Chadrick, Lauren, Destiny, Chase, Reed, Blake, and Taylor, as well as many other dear relatives and friends. Paul graduated from Macomber High school in 1949 with a degree in Aeronautics and received his A & P (Aircraft and Powerplant) mechanic’s license.
With this in hand, Paul headed west to California and was first employed with Douglas Aircraft Company in 1950. Paul served with the California Air National Guard from 1951-1953 during which time he worked as a mechanic on P-51 and F-86 aircraft. In 1954 he landed his dream job with American Airlines where he worked until his retirement in 2001. During this time, he was a Professional Flight Engineer on the DC-6, DC-7, CV-990, B-707, and DC-10. After retirement, Paul and his wife, Jan, shared their time between Kentucky and California.
Besides aviation, Paul was also very interested in photography. He carried his trusty Rolleiflex cameras everywhere he went. Besides taking many photos of his family and friends, he probably photographed almost every air show, air race and auto race. If it moved or was exciting, Paul took a photo of it. He also developed many of his own photos and was always generous in giving photos to friends and family. Many of his photos have appeared in aviation magazines such as “Plane and Pilot”. One of his photos took 1st place in a photo contest at the Paris Air Show. Another of his photos took first place, winning him a trip around the world on SAS Airlines for him and his wife. Paul’s final resting place is alongside his beloved wife, Jan, in Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
