Paul Emmet McCarthy, 62, passed away on November 26th, 2019 in Carson, CA. He was the husband or Emma Del Carmen (Pena) McCarthy.
Born in North Platte, Nebraska, he was the son of Lawrence Richard McCarthy and Mary Alice (Murphy) McCarthy. He attended college in Nebraska with a focus on Mechanical Drawing. As a Mechanical Engineer and Designer, Paul was employed with several California design companies including Tylan Corp., Rockwell DEL Inc., American Magnetic Corp., and Industrial Dynamics Co. Ltd. For the past 14 years Paul worked at the Port of Long Beach in the Engineering Design Division for the Harbor Department. He worked on design, database update, and map making projects.
For five years Paul was the President of the Employees’ Club, organizing many charitable fundraisers such as “Adopt a Child”. He also organized parties for the port employees.
Paul was a devout Catholic and took great pride in his Irish heritage as well as his Nebraska roots, especially during Husker football season. He was a kind man and an excellent cook.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Emma, his son Richard and sisters: Margaret Cunningham (Ray) of St. Louis Missouri, Sharon Hassler (Carl) of Arroyo Grande California, Therese Garth (Mike) of North Platte Nebraska. Brothers; Robert (Deb) of North Platte Nebraska, Patrick of Fort Worth Texas, and Joe (Kim) of Fort Worth Texas, As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral ceremony will be held on December 6th at 12:30pm at The Historic Church in Green Hills Memorial Park, with a graveside service to follow. The visitation/viewing will be held on December 5th in the Cove Suite inside of Green Hills Mortuary from 5pm-8p
