Patsy Virginia Gloor

September 22, 1932 — April 30, 2023

Patsy (Patti) passed away peacefully at home with her daughters following recent health issues. Born Patsy Virginia Bolton in Texas in 1932, her family relocated to South San Francisco when Patti was 12 where she developed her talent for playing piano. She accompanied several big bands as well as played at church and for parties during her high school years. She graduated early and attended San Jose State at the age of 16, where she joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and met ladies who became lifelong friends. After graduation in 1952, Patti worked as a secretary for several companies, including the San Francisco FBI office. There she was introduced on a blind date to Richard (Dick) Gloor, who was in the Navy stationed on Treasure Island whenever his aircraft carrier came into port. They married in 1954 and immediately moved to Boston where Dick earned his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at MIT. Patti also worked at MIT during their time there in the Rad Laboratory on campus. While at MIT, Dick was recruited to join Ramo-Wooldridge Corp. (later TRW) and in 1955 they started their new life in Los Angeles.

They bought their first house in Palos Verdes in 1957 with Nancy arriving in 1960 and Diane in 1963. Patti threw herself into the role of wife and mother becoming involved in many organizations and charities. She volunteered her time with worthy causes including the Assistance League of San Pedro (working in their all-volunteer post office for many years), Toberman House, League of Women Voters and various school PTAs. Patti also became very active in the South Bay Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association enjoying the ongoing bonds of Kappa sisterhood for 65 years. Patti developed a passion for the game of bridge in college which carried on throughout her adult life. She played in several ongoing groups, including eight ladies who played monthly for over 40 years, as well as a foursome which also played together for many years.

Patti developed a passion for international travel in her 50’s and she made up for her late start by taking over 45 tours and cruises, as well as countless trips around the United States! Patti and Dick also spent a week in the beautiful Yosemite Valley each year for over 50 years; as Nancy and Diane grew up, spring break in Yosemite was a special family vacation each year. When they moved to the Peninsula in 1957, they joined Riviera United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach which they attended for 50 years and Patti was a member of Rolling Hills United Methodist Church for the last 16 years. One of her greatest joys was singing in the choir at both churches.

Patti is survived by her daughters, Nancy Schott and Diane (Paul Kobielus) Gloor, grandson Chris (Kate) Schott, granddaughter Katie Schott and great-grandson Wyatt Schott.
