Patricia Lorraine (Keeley) "Pat" Lago, 83, of Torrance, CA, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, December 11, 2013 after a brief battle with stomach cancer that followed three victories over cancer earlier in her active life. She was born March 25, 1930, in Oelwein, IA, to Cole Keeley and Doris (Holmes) Keeley. A graduate of Oelwein High School, she was active in the marching band and journalism. In 1950, she began her 42-year career with AT&T, and was always proud to be part of the company.
Shortly after joining AT&T Patricia moved to Southern California where she became a regular on the Red Car and in 1962 married Francis Lago, also of Iowa. Together they maintained a special connection to their home state, which they visited often. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Lomita Post 1622.
She is survived by husband Francis Lago, her daughter Kathleen Lago, son-in-law Christian Nimsky and grandchildren Cole and Katelyn of Torrance, CA whom she helped raise each day since they were born. She is also survived by nephew James Bacon of Solon, IA and was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mary Bacon and Shirley Passet, brothers Vern Keeley and Francis Keeley, nephew Jack Keeley and niece Sissy.
Services will be held at First Lutheran Church, 2900 Carson St, Torrance, CA on January 11, 2014 at 11AM. Pat was passionate about cancer research, care of the homeless, veterans, abused animals and battered women and donated to those causes throughout her life. Pat was especially grateful to the many caregivers who saw her through her multiple battles with cancer. To honor her memory, donations to the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Cancer at UCLA (cancer.ucla.edu) or a select organization would be greatly appreciated.
