Patricia Kessler, Patty, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, age 87, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Patty was born in Albion, Nebraska to Martha and William Naeve. Her family moved to Idaho and then to Washington where she was raised with her three younger siblings. She married Glenn Blick in 1955 and moved to California, settling in Orange County where Patty lived for fifty years. She married Ike Kessler in 1977 and remained married until he passed away in 1999.
Patty’s life centered around raising her children, and in later years she focused on her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her contagious smile, her gentle character, and her genuine love and compassion for others. She loved collecting glass, ceramic, fabric, and wooden chickens and accumulated a collection that awes friends and family. She loved to quilt, garden, cook, and generously shared her gifts with her family and friends.
Patty was a committed and active Lutheran, confirmed in 1948. She served on the Altar Guild, sang in the Choir, taught Confirmation classes, trained acolytes, designed costumes for Living Pictures, was a Stephen Minister, attended Cursio, served on the church council, represented her congregation at Synod regional gatherings, cooked for the Men’s breakfasts and workdays, helped with funerals and memorial luncheons, served as church secretary, was active in Book Club and Women’s Circles, and loved Young at Heart presentations and luncheons.
Patty was also active in the Danish Brotherhood and Sons of Norway. She helped make lefse and aebleskivers at the festival in Orange for many years.
Patty was predeceased by her husbands, Glenn Blick and Ike Kessler, her brothers Roger and Lonny Naeve, and her son, Daniel Blick. She is survived by her sister Deanna Bird, her daughters, Karen Peters and Kathy Myers, her grandchildren, Stephen and Emily Peters, Kenny and Eddie Myers, and Allison Carey. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail Peters, and Blakeleigh, Charlotte, and Arlo Myers.
