Patricia (Pat) Hansen was born on March 6, 1926 on 98th St. in Los Angeles California. Her parents who had the privilege of receiving her and her younger brother Thomas (Tom) were affectionate hard-working Irish descendants named Patrick and Rose McKiernan. She grew up during the Great Depression and was taught the values of frugality and benevolence would benefit her and the community, wherein these qualities thrived later in her life. She received her education locally at 95th Street Elementary, Bret Harte Junior High School, George Washington High School and finished by graduating comptometer school.
Pat was introduced to her future husband Orland (Ole) N. Hansen by her Postman Lionel Hansen, Orland's older brother. Their courtship culminated in matrimony on March 6, 1947, her 21st birthday. They first lived in a small apartment in Gardena when in 1949 they purchased their first home in Torrance where she resided until her passing. Their marriage produced three children, the oldest a boy named John then the second a boy named Dana and the third a girl named Kathleen (Kathy).
Her Irish upbringing instilled strong family values and the importance that education plays in the children's future. When her son John reached school age she began her involvement with the PTA, Red Cross and United Way. She went door-to-door for donations then accepted greater responsibilities having all the door-to-door volunteers bring their collected donations to her because she enjoyed bookkeeping and auditing. She dreaded public speaking at first but a position she accepted within PTA required it, so she confronted her fears and became an accomplished speaker. She loved to motivate and inspire people and was the inspirational chairman for Tenth District PTA until she became bedbound a year ago. She was passionate about her knowledgeable opinions and PTA administrators along with others respected and sought them, although at times her Irish passion could be frustrating.
Pat rarely had the opportunity for travel before her marriage but that changed when her husband Ole introduced her to camping. Local weekend camping trips were normal with one major vacation a year that was meticulously planned out by the two of them. As Pat and Ole became more financially sound their mode of lodging went from sleeping bags on the ground, to including tents, then advancing up to teardrop trailers and eventually owning various size travel trailers before their phase of world travel coinciding when the kids were older. Her first Major trip abroad was to Hawaii for her 25th anniversary which she had dreamed of all her life. After a period of time their annual vacations abroad went from air travel to cruises.
Pat and Ole has a wonderful 56 years of marriage together. During those 56 years they enjoyed together a variety of interest ranging from road trips to watching midget and dirt-bike racing at Ascot Raceway, taking in the performing arts at the Music Center, flying with Ole in light aircraft, travel shows at El Camino College, special events with family and friends, assisting one-another on projects of interest and of course their journeys and adventures. They were best friends that complimented each other until Ole passed away September 3, 2003. Pat is survived by her Brother Tom and her three children John, Dana and Kathy along with 5 Grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren.
