Patricia Lou Cramer Spry
Patricia Lou Cramer Spry, 87, passed away May 1, 2015 in her home, surrounded by family. Pat was a 45-year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, but spent the first half of her life as a Naval Officer's wife living in various cities across the U.S. in California, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Virginia. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband, Warren Lewis Spry, for 48 years.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on June 20, 1927, Pat was adopted by the late Dr. William T. Cramer and Beatrice Fenby Cramer. Pat was predeceased by brother, William Cramer, sister, Shallamar Myers, and half-sister, Dorothy Tepper. In her youth, Pat earned medals for diving in the Junior Olympics. She attended business school after graduating from Ottawa Hills High School in 1945. In 1946, she moved to Annapolis, MD, where she worked until her marriage to Warren in 1947. She enjoyed spending time with friends, roller skating, swimming, playing tennis, and was an accomplished seamstress. Pat was initiated into Alpha Phi fraternity in 1986.
Pat spent countless hours supporting those in need throughout her adult life. She was very active in war support efforts – baking goods to send overseas during World War II, and facilitating the arrival of children born and displaced during the Vietnam War. She was a loving mother, exceptional friend and extraordinary caregiver. Her quick wit, ability to adapt, and graciousness had a lasting effect on all those around her.
Pat is survived by daughter Diane Straker and husband Edward, daughter, Suzan Spry, daughter Victoria Vogtman and husband Robert; grandchildren Steven Straker and wife Claire, Kelsey, Julia, and Max Selfridge, Chad Vogtman and wife Erin, Karla Denman and husband David; great granddaughter, Carly Straker; and surrogate grandchildren, Morgan and Marshall Findley.
