Oscar Galaviz Lomas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the age of 93. Oscar was born in Porvenir De Arriba, Coahuila Mexico on February 24, 1931 and was a longtime resident of San Pedro, California. Before emigrating to the United States in the early 1950s, he served in the MARINES. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gregoria Lomas. He is survived by his 3 children, Amparo Lomas, Oscar Lomas Jr., and Gloria Lomas-Manzano, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, 7 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Boxing was his favorite sport, and he was extremely modest about the fact that he had a short career as a professional boxer in the bantamweight division between the years of 1949-1955. His hobby was filming with an 8mm movie camera then eventually videotaping friends and family events like Weddings, Baptisms, and Quinceañeras, way before it was a custom to hire videographers.
Everyone knew that they could ask him for just about anything, or just for help moving from one place to another. He never missed an opportunity to help anyone. Our father was the man that would have taken his shirt off his back and given it to anyone who needed it. He was an amazing story-teller and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19th, 2024 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel 27501 S. Western Ave in Rancho Palos Verdes followed by interment at gravesite.
