Orlando Jesse Martinez passed away on March 3, 2016. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, family and friends. Orlando was born March 24, 1977 in Torrance, CA. He was a Torrance High graduate where he played baseball — and as a 15-year-old was a member of the Senior Little League World Series United States Championship team. Orlando graduated from California State University at Hayward in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. He received his teaching credential from California State University of Dominguez Hills and was employed by the Hawthorne School District for 16 years, teaching students from Kindergarten to 8th grade.
Orlando spent his days as a devoted husband, loving father, loyal friend, dedicated youth baseball coach and avid fisherman. He loved being near the ocean, where he was always at peace. But his greatest pride was his family; his wife Stacy and three children, Reese (11), Dene (7) and Eli (4) and their home in Torrance. Orlando touched the lives of his family, friends, students and players with his encouraging words, generosity and unforgettable smile. Orlando poured his heart into everything he did. Not only did he find joy in seeing his own children learn and grow, he also found the same joy in helping other children do the same.
Along with his wife and children, he is also survived by his sisters Gloria Cardoso, Emily Gonzalez, Rachel Diaz, Teresa Gomez and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother Andrea Villarreal and brother Ruben Villarreal.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 at Green Hills Cemetery in Rancho Palos Verdes with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
