Olive Teresa O'Brien

July 19, 1930 — April 12, 2023

Olive Teresa (Trayers) O'Brien was born in Brownsburg, Quebec, Canada.. on July 19, 1930, the first child of Michael and Margret (O'Sullivan) Trayers. She was raised on the family farm and enjoyed a mixture of country and town life during her childhood years. Her brother and her three sisters still reside in Canada.

Olive went on to work in Human Resources at Bell Telephone of Canada where she met her future husband Lorne Egli O'Brien. After marriage in 1957, Olive and Lorne moved to Hollywood to escape the cold winters of Canada and enjoy the mild southern California weather. They raised their five sons in the South Bay settling in to the Lunada Bay area of Palos Verdes Estates in 1972.

Olive was passionate about gardening, growing a bounty of flewers that she loved to share with friends and neighbors. She especially enjoyed family time with her children and grandchildren. Olive and Lorne were long time members of the Palos Verdes Golf Club and St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church.

Olive also was active in the community. She helped found the Pregnancy Help Center and volunteered as Director for many years guiding the organization into non-profit status and staffing with local volunteer professionals to help with teenage pregnancy. The signature fund raising event, Walk for Life, continues on an annual basis providing financial assistance for the Center. Other fund raising efforts led to the purchase of a home in Torrance named Casa de los Angelitos providing short term help for young mothers in need. She earned the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. In recent years, Olive welcomed many PVE senior residents to the PVE Cares program through a unique venture with the police department.

Olive was preceded in death by her husband Lorne. She is survived by her five sons and five grandchildren. She will be remembered for her warmth and friendliness, her genuine interest in people, and her kind and loving nature. We will greatly miss this caring woman.
