Normand R Grandmaison

February 5, 1936 — January 16, 2023

Normand R Grandmaison, was born February 5, 1936 in Lewiston, Maine to Romeo Grandmaison and Jean Moreau. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend went with our Lord on Monday, January 16, 2023 at his home in Wilmington, California. He left this earth surrounded by friends and family after many battles with heart disease.

Normand was an amazing athlete who loved playing football and hockey. He joined the Army and served as a surgical technician stationed in Texas. He later went on to become a mechanic and worked for several major corporations like McDonnell Douglas and LACT before becoming a Longshore mechanic.

In 1961, Normand married Dorothy Beaucage in Lewiston, Maine and the two made the journey to California where they raised their two sons, Gary and Steve. When Dorothy began to experience complications stemming from Multiple Sclerosis, Normand was there to take care of her every step of the way. Whether it meant building accessible equipment to take her on short drives, taking a few minutes a day for a stroll around the neighborhood or creating scrapbooks to remind Dorothy of their children and grandchildren, Normand did it without an ounce of selfishness and a smile on his face. Dottie and Normand were married for 51 years before she went peacefully to Heaven after her battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Even through the loss of his sweetheart and best friend, Romeo Goulet, he still put others before himself and stepped up to take care of his family. He was kind, caring, giving and his sense of humor was unparalleled. He cared for his neighbors and friends like they were all members of the family. He gave back to his Church along with his best friends Romeo and Vivianne Goulet. He also regularly gave back to the Alzheimer’s Association and American Heart Association.

In 2016, he married Diane Reth and was loved by both her and her son, Charles. They embarked on several vacations together to visit his family in Maine, Diane’s family in Texas, and “Hell’s Kitchen” in Las Vegas with Charles. Everywhere they went, the three always had smiles on their face.

Normand is survived by his brothers, Richard, Al, and Ronnie, wife, Diane, son’s Gary and Steve, step son Charles, grandchildren Kelly and Frenchesca, and sister in law/ best friend, Vivianne Goulet. (And many, many more) He is preceded by Dorothy, his parents and his brother, Raymond.

There will never be another like Normand, and the world is a better place because he was in it.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Normand to the American Heart Association to PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692, or online at: https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give .
