Chapman, Norma Carol
January 26, 1937 – November 11, 2011
Beloved mother, grandmother, and community leader, Carol passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Carol was a lifelong resident of Wilmington and could recall the old brick Banning High School building. Although the city changed much during her lifetime, she was always commited to making it a better place for everyone.
Carol was best known as a tough cookie with a soft heart, and her life was full of examples of her love and care for others. Carol served as President of the ILWU Ladies' Auxilary No. 8 for many years where she led and organized many charitable works. She especially loved organizing Christmas toydrives and sending care packages to our troops overseas. Carol also had a special place in her heart for less fortunate children and served as a "second mom" to many. Her sense of humor, hospitality, and many good works will not be forgotten.
Carol is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Del. She is survived by her son, Mike (Nancy), and her daughters, Cynthia (Aaron), and Catherine (Ismael). Carol is also survived by her siblings, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are planned for Friday, November 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Mortuary in Rancho Palos Verdes. Reception to follow at the ILWU Local 13 Memorial Hall in Wilmington.
