Redondo Beach, CA — Norma Jean San Augustine Abueg, 79, died March 9, 2020 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center following a brief illness.
She leaves her husband of 61 years, Cesar (Tolentino) Abueg; her sons, Cesar (Kim) Abueg, Jr.; Geno (Andrea) Abueg; and two daughters, Christine (Stephen) Justino; and Lisa (Steve) Kiyohara. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Keilani (Nate), Nicolas, Cameron, Brandon (Elizabeth), Haley, Ryan, Lauren, Nicole, Justine, and one great grandchild Eryka Rae.
Born and raised in Honolulu, HI, the daughter of Gene and Jesusa (Lagrimas) San Augustine. Norma was a long-time California resident but considered Hawaii her true home.
Norma met Cesar, the love of her life, at a New Year’s dance in Waipahu, HI on Jan. 1, 1955. Throughout their long-distance courtship, Norma remained in Hawaii while Cesar served in the US Navy. Norma and Cesar married on Jan. 2, 1959 in San Francisco. She raised four children while working as a licensed practical nurse, and subsequently retired in grocery retail. Upon Cesar’s retirement, the family settled in Hawaii. In the 80’s Norma and Cesar moved the family back to California.
Norma’s love of family was the primary focus of her life, and much of her free time was spent in the company of her children, grandchildren, great granddaughter and of course with Cesar – they were inseparable. Her favorite pastimes were crafts, travel and attending church.
