On the evening of Thursday, April 21, 2016, long time resident of Lomita and Korean War Veteran Nick Angelich passed away peacefully after 83 remarkable years.
Nick, the son of Kristo and Anna Angelich, was born on September 8, 1932 in Long Beach, California. He spent a short period of his childhood in Fresno, California then moved to Harbor City when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Narbonne High School in 1949, where he met the love of his life Barbara Fiesel. They were married in 1952 and settled in Lomita for 64 years.
In 1950 Mr. Nick became an ILWU Longshoreman Local 13, and then in 1963 he became a Foreman Local 94, until his retirement in 2005 working on the waterfront for 55 years. He was a hardworking dedicated ILWU Union Brother. He had a great love for cars and boats, and had many of both. He enjoyed spending time with his family at his river home in Bullhead City, Arizona. He could often be seen in Redondo Beach, and people knew him by his shiny black Escalade and his Mr. Nick license plate. You would also see him driving around Lomita several times a day.
