Nellie C. Cawile

July 14, 1931 — January 9, 2024

Nellie dela Cruz Cawile peacefully transitioned to heaven on January 9, 2024 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old.

Nellie was born 7/14/1931 in Dagupan City, Philippines. She bravely immigrated alone to the United States during WWII to join the Licensed Vocational Nurse program. Soon after she met her husband, Sidney Cawile, dancing at the Riviera Club in Long Beach. They were talented dancers and attended many events showing off their rendition of the Tango and Cha Cha.

Together they raised 5 children, Ameripina Romero, Sidney Cawile, Joyce Naeyaert, Jerry Cawile and Lourdes Cawile. They also raised her brother Mario Cawile.

She spent her career at the Defense Management Contract Agency where she was employed as a Procurement Assistant.

Nellie worshiped at the Fort MacArthur Church where she sang soprano in the choir. She was the Treasurer of the Pangasinan Association of Long Beach and a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion.

Nellie is best described as a warrior. She was strong willed and conquered every obstacle that she confronted. She worked hard to ensure her children had a better life than she did. She was extremely proud that all her children graduated from college.

She placed family first and was a loving and nurturing Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She will always be remembered for her sweet smile, gentle laugh and vibrant singing voice.

Nellie is survived by her children, 10 Grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren.
She will be interned privately at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery.
A special thank you to Roze Room Hospice for their extraordinary care and support.
