Mollieann Cash Keith

May 23, 1937 — February 17, 2019

Early on in her teens Mollieann worked at a movie theater and she was a dock worker. In the late 1960's she started working at Long Beach Douglas as an aircraft builder. During her time at Douglas Aircraft she worked both the day shift and the night shift. Even though she worked long hours at Douglas Aircraft, she attended hundreds of horse shows with her kids in the early and mid 1970's. She was an avid supporter of the equestrian industry. She was a member of several horse clubs. She loved watching Jimmy and Bobby participate in the Gynkhana horse shows where they did pole and barrel racing. Her children started in the 12 and under age group when they were almost 12 years old. She would help them practice their horses on the weekends along with her father, Hillis Cash. After just a year of practice and training their horses, Jimmy and Bobby were winning many trophies and ribbons. When they came to a horse show, others knew there would be stiff competition present. Her son Jimmy won the High Point Award at the United Horseman's Association (U.H.A.) three years in a row when he was in the age 13-17 year old age group where all age groups were in competition together; 12 years and under, 13-18 years old, and 18 years old and over. She never missed a single horse show. Her father, Hillis Cash, was usually recruited as one of three people who would use a wind up stop watch to measure the times that each horse would complete an event. The high and low times were thrown out and the middle time was used as the time for the event. He was one of the few people that had a stop watch that measured in hundredths of a second. This is before electronic timers were used. She had many friends at the horse shows. Also, she attended every wrestling match of her son Jimmy, who attended El Modena High School in Orange California. She gave much of herself. She was known to open her home to others. A family friend, Gay Meyer, came to live with her family and she even entered a few horse shows. Becky Keith came to live with her family when she was in the 11th Grade and she graduated from the same high school Bobby, Jimmy and Greg graduated from. She opened her home to many foster children helping them change their lives. One of her very special foster children was Greg Ramirez. Greg loved Mollie and stayed in contact with her throughout his life. After the slow down at Douglas Aircraft, she was laid off and then she worked for the Phone Company in West Covina and supported her son Jimmy while he attended Cal Poly State University in Pomona. She was later brought back to Douglas Aircraft when aircraft contracts increased. Eventually Douglas Aircraft was taken over by Boeing Aircraft and there she became an aircraft inspector. She was a hard worker all of her life. She then continued to work at Boeing so that she could put son Jimmy through Medical School where he graduated with his MD degree in 1988 from St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies. After her father died in 1978, she moved in with her mother and took care of her until she died in 2000. While taking care of her mother, she also took care of her sister Laurelee when she became ill and died in 1993. She developed a special relationship with her sister's son, Dennis, who became a very important person in her life. She was a strong woman all of her life and she would speak her mind when needed. She would never allow substandard work on any aircraft. She was patriotic and was a supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) by making donations to them. Later in life, she enjoyed sharing her memories. Though she was not able to, she wished that she could have traveled the United States to explore and experience the greatness of this country.
