Mohamad “Marsh” Abdine, 77, passed away peacefully at home in the loving company of his family.
Marsh had a deep passion for history, geography, and current events. A natural conversationalist, he could instantly recognize where someone was from and engage them in discussions about their country and politics. He was an avid coin collector and loved traveling, taking cruises, and spending time in Maui.
Marsh had a long and successful career as a business broker at VR. He was outgoing and had a warm, inviting personality that put others at ease. His sense of humor, compassion, and generosity made him beloved by all who knew him. His greatest joys in life were his family—his wife, children and their spouses, grandchildren, his sister Omayma, and extended family in Syria and North Carolina—as well as his close friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Claudia Abdine; son Alan and wife Melissa Abdine, along with granddaughters Paisley and Magnolia of Austin, Texas; daughter Andrea and husband Evans Tucker, along with grandsons Corbin and Rhys of San Diego; and son Derek and wife Jennifer Abdine, along with grandchildren Lucas, Evelyn, and Clara of Rancho Palos Verdes.
Marsh was known for his playful spirit. His grandchildren will always remember him for his famous “dipplemaylee” game, where he’d walk his fingers up from their toes to tickle them, and for saying that their slobber “tasted like honey.” He was also the reigning family arm wrestling champion—no one could beat him. His love for gadgets earned him the nickname “Mr. Gadget,” and his favorite saying, “I’m rough and I’m tough, but I’m a cream puff,” perfectly captured his mix of strength and tenderness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in his honor.
His warmth, wisdom, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
