July 30, 1931 – January 10, 2019

Michael Myton Charles Kennedy died quietly at his home in San Pedro, California. He was born in Los Angeles to Charles and Ellen Kennedy, and remained a resident in the South Bay area for most of his life. Mike liked to say that he was a Hermosa Beach Bum. He loved surfing and beach volley ball. He graduated from Redondo Union High School, attended El Camino College, Long Beach City College and California State University Long Beach. Mike answered the call and served in the Korean War, where he spent 3 years as a Quartermaster/Signalman and Master Helmsman aboard the Destroyer, USS Buck, DD-761. Upon release from active duty, he continued his education and spent 6 years working for Garrett Supply Company. In 1962, he began his career with Northrup Aircraft Company as a Junior Engineer. Over the years, Mike was advanced to Senior Technical Specialist/Project Engineer.

Mike joined the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club in 1974. He became an avid sailor, racing his Cal 20 sailboat. Not too much later, he took the position of Race Committee Chairman and eventually became the CBYC Commodore in 1982. Among his other achievements, he built and flew a high performance Lancair 320 experimental airplane and also built and drove a 1932 Ford Roadster Hotrod.

Mike is survived by his sister, Rita (Peter) Schoonmaker, his children, Patricia (Michael) Fikstad, Elizabeth (Gregory) Holihan, Amanda (Stanley) Martin, Christina Kennedy, Marta (Timothy) Michell, Kathleen (Charles) Parks and Timothy (Kristina) Kennedy, fourteen grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mike liked to say that when he touches down at the big airport in the sky, he will be greeted by all of his past four legged critters.
