Mb (Melvin) Burns

September 4, 1926 — August 20, 2012

In loving memory of MB (Melvin) Burns. MB was born on September 4th, 1926 in Blytheville, Arkansas and passed away on Monday, August 20th, 2012 peacefully at his home. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leona; children, Gerald(Carol) of Illinois, Mel(Wanda) of Lomita, Alana Gail of Raleigh, NC, Kyle(Denise) of Eugene, Or and Jana(Tom) of San Bernadino; 11 grandchildren, Sheri and Kathie of Illinois, Kayla of Raleigh, NC, Michelle and Kim of the Palm Spings area, Shannon of Torrance, Tom and Chris of San Bernadino and Sam of Eugene, Or; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great- great- granddaughter and one brother, Basil Lee of Missouri. MB spent the majority of his working years at Todd Pacific Shipyard in San Pedro, Ca as the Director of Safety and a National Union Representative for The Industrial Union of Marine and Shipbuilding Workers of America AFL-CIO, Local 9. He worked tirelessly to keep "his men" safe and represented at the shipyard. Yet, his first love was always his family and he will be missed more than words can say. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 7th, 2012, 11:00am at Green Hills Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make a charitable donation to the Salvation Army who took care of him as a young man when he had nowhere else to go.
