Mary Elizabeth Quagletti

On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, Mary Elizabeth Quagletti, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away at the age of 91.

Mary was born on June 29, 1931 in the Bronx, New York, to C. Stewart and Lillian Koehler.
Exceptionally bright, Mary skipped two grades and graduated high school at age 17. From 1948 to 1950, Mary attended Greenbrier College in West Virginia, where she studied in the secretarial program.

In 1953, she decided to move to California, where lifelong friend, Astrid, lived. Not long after moving to Los Angeles, she met her husband, Joseph J. Quagletti. "Joe's" friend was dating one of her 3 roommates. They wanted to arrange a double date between Joe and another roommate over the phone. He said he wanted to talk to the girl with the red shoes," and as it happened (ever the clothes horse) Mary was wearing red shoes. They married in Las Vegas in 1957 and had two daughters, Susan, born in 1959, and Karen, born in 1960.

Mary worked for several years as secretary at her church, Resurrection Lutheran in Redondo Beach. Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed entertaining her many friends and family. She traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. She loved to dance and West Coast Swing was her style. Alpine Village was a favorite spot for dancing and she was a regular attendee at the Gardena Elks, the Sons of Italy Lodge #1991, and the LA Swing Dance Club. Mary was an avid card player; she enjoyed pinochle, bridge and later cribbage with husband Charles "Chuck" Scheirbeck whom she married in 1998. She was an active bridge player in her later years.

Mary was preceded in death by husbands Joe and Chuck. She is survived by daughters, Susan and Karen, son-in-law Rafael, and granddaughter, Leticia.
