Mary Lee Mock, passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2024 at home with her son Louis, in Carson, CA. She was only 98 years old.
Mary was born in Biltmore, Buncombe County, NC on September 15, 1925. She was one of four siblings with the other three being brothers. During her early teens she raised her brothers on her own for several years while attending high school.
Mary graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Ashville, NC in 1944. Shortly thereafter she married John David Nelson in North Carolina, by which she had her first child, David Lee Nelson. From 1944-1946 she was employed as a nursing student with the United States Cadet Nursing Corps, working at Ashville Mission Hospital.
Mary remarried to Louis Richard Silva in Florida in 1951, by which she had her second child, Louis Richard Silva Junior. They lived in Florida for a number of years before moving to Southern California.
Mary remarried the third and last time to Paul Edgar Mock in Los Angeles County on December 20, 1964, becoming mom to Paul’s children, J.P. Mock and Kay T. Mock. Mary worked as a mom while employed at many different jobs over the years. She eventually retired from her longest running employment, as a miniature lamp inspector.
She and Paul loved to travel and visit family in Arkansas and Virginia when they could. They also enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas, cruises, and thoroughbred races. Spending time with their grandkids was extra special. All of the kids and grandkids have great memories of Mary as the “sweetest little old lady” who was always loving and kind. Mary will be sorely missed by all.
Mary is survived by her son Louis Silva Jr., step-son J.P. Mock, and step-daughter Kay T. Rhodes. Grandchildren Richard Silva, Michelle Robertson, Christine Kirk, Candice Coleman, David Mock, Jamie Kelly, David Cruz, and Jake Cruz along with seventeen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Paul Mock, parents Henry Allen Teasdale and Hattie Pearl McAbee, brothers David Teasdale, Henry Teasdale, and Kenneth Teasdale; and son John David Nelson.
Visitation services will take place at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 on Monday July 15th, 2024 at 12:30pm followed by a graveside service at 2:00pm. Where Mary will be joining Paul for their peaceful happily thereafter.
