Mary Jane Mann, 95, of Hermosa Beach left us on October 13, 2021 surrounded by family in her home in Temecula.
Mary was born April 7, 1926 in Wheaton, Minnesota to Earl Barker and Catherine Fowler. She was the youngest of several children. Mary moved to Hermosa Beach, CA where she lived for 66 years until she moved to Temecula, CA in 2017 to be closer to her family. She was married to Bud on January 11, 1947 until his passing in 1988. While married to Bud, Mary gave birth to two sons, Steven and Gary. Mary was hired by the Hermosa Beach Police Department on January 1, 1965 as a detectives' secretary. She prepared case information and dictation for numerous detectives so they could present them to D.A. or City Prosecutor. She retired January 9, 1987 after 22 years of service. She was known to many for her hard work, dedication and selfless nature.
Mary had a deep love for traveling; she loved being immersed in other cultures and languages. She has witnessed much of the world's beauty including Italy, France, and parts of Africa to name a few places. She wanted this love of travel to be instilled in her family so she took her granddaughters on their first worldly trip. Mary was a lover of music and art; she herself loved to paint and draw. Mary also loved the beach. She lived in Hermosa Beach for over half a century and would spend much of her free time walking down to the strand and taking pictures of sunsets. She loved plants and flowers and was a member of the Hermosa Garden Club for many years.
Mary will forever be remembered for her love of family and friends. She wanted nothing more in life than to be surrounded by those she loved most with music playing and a glass of chardonnay in her hand. She will always be remembered as a woman of determination - age was truly just a number to her, it had no impact on her life because she always lived life to the fullest.
Mary is preceded by her husband Herman “Bud” Mann.
Mary is survived by her sons Steven and Gary and her daughters-in-laws which include Dolores and Beatrice, her grandchildren which include Linda, Jackie, Lisa, and Christian, as well as by her great-grandchild, Hailey.
