Mary Louise Suryan Halliday, beloved aunt, sister, daughter and friend, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011. Mary Lou was born September 1, 1930 in Anacortes, Washington to Frank and Anna Thomas Suryan, both Croatian immigrants. After finishing high school in Anacortes in 1949 Mary Lou migrated South to San Pedro, California. She took a room at the YWCA and began her career of over 50 years as a waitress; over 25 years at Chin's Garden, 20 years plus at Olsen's, and serving banquets at Trump's after she retired. Her great service and hearty laugh were indeed memorable. Mary Lou volunteered many years at San Pedro Hospital/Little Company of Mary until recently. She was a member of numerous organizations. She was an avid golfer. Her family and friends were an important part of her life. Mary Lou is survived by her nieces and nephews: Debra (Jon) Jenny of Mission Viejo; Frank Suryan, Jr. of Huntington Beach; Cheryl Garcia of San Pedro; Shelli (Gary) Cootes of Rancho Palos Verdes; and Robert Katnich of San Pedro; great-nieces and nephews: Rebecca, Michael and Samantha Jenny; Kasey, Kyle and Kody Suryan; Megan and Jake Stanford; Chanel and Sean Garcia; Nycole, Dominique and Danielle Cootes; Carter Katnich and great-great nephew Joseph Garcia; one sister in-law: RoseMary "Cookie" (Frank, Sr.) Suryan of San Pedro. She was predeceased by her parents, two husbands; Kenneth E. Fontes (1971) and Bob Halliday (1980), her brother Frank, Sr., and nephew Steven Suryan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Better Breathers Club, c/o Little Company of Mary, 1300 West 7th Street, San Pedro, CA 90732. Viewing will be Thursday 3 to 8 p.m. Crypt Side Services will be Friday, August 19, 2011 at 12:00 o'clock noon in Green Hills Memorial Park at the Court of Devotion, Rancho Palos Verdes.
