Mary Bruno

August 9, 1924 — September 20, 2014

A small lady with a big presence, Mary passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014. She was born and raised in Astoria, New York and met her husband Dan in Central Park. As a Navy Wife, Mary lived at various Navy bases along the East coast and Great Lakes, Illinois. Her dream of coming to California was realized in 1960. Mary was an avid quilter and completed intricate quilts for her family. She was proud of her quilts being showcased and has won several quilting awards. She and Dan were frequent Las Vegas visitors, and she was usually the luckiest slot player in the group. And, oh, she cook those big Italian dinners! Mary recently enjoyed a wonderful celebration of her 90th birthday with all of her family and many close friends who will remember her feisty spirit and quick wit. Special thanks to her caregivers, Merlyn and Minda, who gave her much comfort. Mary is survived by 5 children; Dani Sayers, Mary Bruno, Danny (Noina) Bruno, Doreen (David) Offitzer, and Donna (Don) Gifford, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 3 sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with graveside service to follow. Donations in Mary's name to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America will be appreciated.
