Mark Oreb, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2024, with his family at his side. Born and raised in San Pedro, Mark spent his entire life in the community he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ginny (who he met at Dana Jr High when they were both 14), daughters Beth (Scott) Thompson, Sharon (Ray) Estrada, and his twin brother Richard (Juana) Oreb. He was a cherished grandfather to Samantha (Trevor) Lancaster, Alicia Thompson, Mark (Taylor) Thompson, Ray and Robyn Estrada and a proud great-grandfather to Vanessa and Xavier Lancaster. Survived by many nieces and a nephew.
Mark was preceded in death by his loving son, Robert, his sisters, Arlene Nichols, Helen Oreb and parents Mark and Evelyn Oreb.
Mark was a proud Longshoreman employed at ILWU locals 13 and 94 for 42 years. He enjoyed working nights as a crane driver and eventually retired as a Foreman.
He traveled with Ginny and enjoyed golfing on many courses across the U.S. He passed down his love for outdoor activities to his children and grandchildren, creating great memories from family ski trips to Mammoth, waterskiing and camping trips. Mark also enjoyed weekly drives in his classic 1967 Austin Healey, often greeted by waves and honks.
In his free time, Mark could always be found hanging out in his garage, chatting with neighbors who passed by. He cherished meeting up with his friends several times a week at the Corner Store. He also enjoyed the friendly competition with his weekly bowling league. His passion for these activities brought joy to many around him and left a lasting impact on his friends and family.
Mark will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his love for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Deep appreciation to Kaiser Hospice Care who provided great comfort and support to Mark and his family.
