Marilyn Coakley, a long time Lomita resident, passed away in Torrance at the age of 82. She was one of 8 children born in Ellsworth, Michigan to William Petter and Blanche Smith Petter. In 1952 she married Newel "Bob" Coakley and they moved the family, daughter Jeanne and son Norman "Bud" to Torrance, California in 1967. Marilyn and Bob enjoyed many years traveling around the USA visiting friends and family. Marilyn especially enjoyed a cross country trip with her daughter Jeanne in July of 2013.
She loved the Lord and attended several churches in Torrance and Lomita over the years. Some of her hobbies were bible study classes, bird watching, growing vegetables, canning and crocheting. She especially loved her 4 grandsons-Jonathan (Abby) and Scott Millman, Kelvin and Bryan Coakley.
Marilyn is preceded in death by husband Bob in 1990, her parents and her sisters, Shirley Petrie and Betty Moore. She is survived by daughter Jeanne (Raymond) Millman and son Dr. Norman (Sophie Thu) Coakley; brothers, William Jr. (Joyce), Ed (Joyce) and Harold, sisters, Susan and Linda (all in Michigan), plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Local services will include a visitation from 3pm – 8pm on Tuesday, December 15th at Green Hills Mortuary and a funeral will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 16th at Green Hills Memorial Chapel.
