Marie Stanovich Ursich

Born Elvira Marie Stanovich, Nov. 14, 1923 to Anton & Louise in San Pedro, she took pride in being alumnus of Mary Star JrH’39 and SPHS-S’42, always on the reunion committees. Marrying Kruno July 27, 1946 brought 62 years of marriage, 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 17 G-Gkids. Marie was a devout Catholic, blessed to travel to many pilgrimage sites and other worldly adventures with Kruno. She was constantly involved in cub scouts, girl scouts, swim team mom, CCD and all the school activities for her children. She and Kruno loved entertaining family and friends at their Dodson home since 1950 and in their Catalina home since the 70’s. Marie fought long and hard to protect the Warner Grand Theatre from the wrecking ball, and her dedication to the San Pedro fishing industry is seen in the completion of the Fishermen’s Memorial on Harbor Blvd. In her spare time she learned to use a specialized computer program to create extensive, detailed family tree histories dating to the early 1800’s. Marie is predeceased by Kruno, G-Granddaughter Kataryna Bell, her sisters Eva Frlekin and Jean Welle. Survived by children: Nancy (Vince) Castiglione, Ken (Gretchen), Mick, Melinda & Joe (Cindy) Ursich and Kris (Rick)Pielago, and their families. Loving thank yous go out to her caregivers Beth, Jasmine & Connie, and Trinity Hospice Care.

Visitation: Thursday, October 26, 3-8 PM with Rosary 7pm at Green Hills Mortuary. Funeral Mass: 10:30am, Friday, October 27 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1292 Santa Cruz, San Pedro. Graveside service: 3 PM at Green Hills Cemetery. Donations in her memory would be appreciated for the Warner Grand Theatre, 478 W. 6th St.; the LA Harbor Boys & Girls Club, 1200 S.
