Marie Scala

Marie Scala, daughter of Vincenzo and Lucia Cuomo, was born in Ischia, Italy on September 1, 1923 and called to God on October 26, 2018. She moved to San Pedro in 1936 along with her sister Ann and brother Pete, and was married to her loving husband George Scala from 1946 until his death in 2004. Marie is survived by her brother John Cuomo; sisters-in-law Marlene and Roberta Cuomo; her children John Scala of San Diego, Ann Long of Corona, and Fran Robert of Santa Clarita; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She had a very full and blessed life. She worked as a school nurse at Mary Star of the Sea Elementary, a dental assistant at the Assistance League of San Pedro, and as an LVN at Bay Harbor and Little Company of Mary Hospitals. Her greatest enjoyment was her family and cooking for them.

Services will be held November 9 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. with interment to follow. Visitation is November 8 between 4 and 8 p.m. at Green Hills. Our mother’s gentle hands held her children on the day we took our first breaths, and we held hers when she took her last.
