Marie Keiko Lynch passed away in her home on July 17, 2023 from cardiovascular disease.
Marie was born on April 1, 1940, daughter of Toshie and Kenichi Matsumoto in San Francisco, California. At 2 years of age Marie and her widowed mother were interned at Topaz, a Japanese relocation camp in Utah. The United States government detained them from May 20, 1942 to April 10, 1945. After being released, they lived with her godparents on the United States army base in San Francisco.
She graduated from Holy Names College with a bachelor's degree in Microbiology. She married James Lynch on January 1, 1963. Early on the couple lived in a number of locations, including Victorville, Lincoln Heights, and Hawthorne California. The family eventually settled and bought a home in Rancho Palos Verdes in 1971. She worked for the Public Health Department as a microbiologist until the birth of her first child. Once her children were old enough, she returned to the field and worked at a few different companies before finding her niche at Bioscreen, where she worked in food and product safety testing as well as asbestos testing.
She was also active with the Girl Scouts of America, even becoming a scout leader for a few years. Her love of scouting and the outdoors continued on long past the time her daughter were in the Girl Scouts. She continued to hike the local trails around Palos Verdes until the end. She also was an avid bowler, taekwondo student bridge enthusiast, puzzle solver and bridge player with the local club.
She is survived by her 3 children; Samantha, Brian and Jessica and her 3 grandchildren Cassandra, Brianna and A.J.
