HUNTLEY, Marie Joyce
Died April 4, 2014, at home in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Born January 19, 1915 in Cleveland, Ohio, Marie was the only child of Marie Corwin Joyce and Miles Anthony Joyce. She was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Leslie Myer Huntley.
After graduating from the Ursuline Young Ladies Academy in Pittsburgh, Marie moved to York, Pennsylvania and started her career with GE. In 1941 during WWII, at the age of 26, she went to work for the Navy in York, PA. Marie transferred to California in 1944 to work in the Navy Motion Picture Liaison Office, settling in Manhattan Beach, where she would live for the next 64 years. After the war, she moved onto Bullocks Wilshire, then Hughes Aircraft, and when Simon Ramo and Dean Wooldridge left to start TRW, Marie went with them as secretary to Mr. Ramo.
Marie and Leslie married in 1967, after a 5-year engagement. She retired in 1974 after 19 years with TRW, and went onto to enjoy retirement with all the same vigor she put into her career. She and Les were known in the neighborhood for their great parties, and visitors were often surprised to find two cocktail hours each day, one before the noon meal and another before dinner. Marie was curious and inquisitive, and a great listener. She maintained a rolodex of information about all her relatives and friends, and would start every conversation with a litany of questions, picking up right where she had left off before.
Marie is survived by seven nieces and nephews, as well as oodles of grand nieces and nephews and hoards of great-grand nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 27 from 1:30-3:30pm at The Canterbury, 5801 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a big bowl of ice cream.
