Maria Carolina Law was born in New Orleans in 1920 and spent her youth in Nicaragua and Panama. She graduated from Balboa High School in the Canal Zone, then would work 18 years for the military civil service.
In the late 1940s, Carol and family sailed to California, a dream of her mother Adelfia Canton’s. In 1956, Carol married a wonderful man, James Law, and set up home with her parents and aunt Corina in Los Angeles.
Jim and Carol lived in Torrance for the better part of their 54-year marriage. They gathered often with neighbors during the holidays, for community events, book clubs and church — and the famous Friday Morning Club in San Pedro.
Carol will be remembered for her gracious hospitality. A caring and thoughtful person, she welcomed close friends and family who wished to teach or study. Additionally, there were visitors who spent breezy summers in the South Bay casa. Carol, along with sweet Aunt Cori, engaged in shopping, cooking, sewing, day trips and reminiscing about folks from the old country.
Carol passed away peacefully two months shy of her 105th birthday at the home of her beloved son and daughter-in-law. Mom had been tenderly looked after by faithful, joyful, truly-the-best ladies. We send a big shout-out to amazing Vitas hospice. And huge thanks to our dear Misty, who invited Carol to become part of their lives on a daily basis. What special attention Carol received from the Law and Conde families, along with their precious pups! Misty and Steve steadfastly nurtured Carol over many years and with hearts of gold.
We will miss you, Mom / Abuela / Tía Caro / Doña Carolina! Thank you for your love!!
