Maria Ana Garcia of Redondo Beach passed away on October 30, 2014 surrounded by her husband of 45 years, Constantino "Tino" Garcia, and her two daughters, Karina and Edna.
Maria was born in Durango, Mexico in 1952. She spent much of her childhood living in Northern California. In 1968, while visiting her hometown in Mexico, she met Tino, the love of her life. They married a year later and settled in Bishop, California. In 1973, they moved to Southern California with their two young daughters.
Maria began working in the Hawthorne School District in 1974 as a teacher's aide while attending college classes in the evenings. Maria received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies in 1980 and later, earned a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Cal State Dominguez Hills. Maria worked for the Hawthorne School District for 30 years where she served as a teacher's aide, a teacher, a principal and an administrator. She cherished the life-long friendships she made while working for the school district.
Maria was a positive, kind and beautiful lady who was loved by many. She will be missed greatly. Her quiet strength and positive outlook, especially during her illness, inspired and amazed those around her.
Maria is survived by her beloved husband Tino, daughters Karina Garcia Takata (Ken) and Edna Garcia Earley (Dan), grandsons Kyle and Alexander Takata and Jack, Max and Luke Earley. She also leaves behind three sisters, many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation will be held on November 7, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church in Redondo Beach. Interment will follow immediately at Green Hills Memorial Park.
