With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Maria de Jesus Esquivel Maciel “Mama Chuy”, our loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Mama Chuy, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021 due to her wide assortment of ailments. Born on August 10, 1947, in Las Zarquillas, Michoacán, Mexico, she was the daughter of Adolfo Maciel and Concepcion Esquivel. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Maximiano A. Esquivel, and her four children. She was the beloved mother of Rosa Guadalupe, Blanca Rocio (Ignacio Reyes), Maria Remedios and Maximo Cuauhtémoc, proud grandmother of Carlos, Marco Antonio, Vianca Guadalupe, Mikaela, and Sophia. She was preceded in death by her oldest and devoted son Manuel Salvador Esquivel.
Mama Chuy lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, homemaker, and businesswoman. She loved to cook, kept an immaculate house, was highly skilled with knitting needles and crochet hooks and enjoyed her daily walks. A farm girl at heart, gardening was also a passion. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her son, Maximo. She was a master cook in the kitchen. She shared her love of cooking by making chimichangas and tamales for her granddaughter Vianca.
Mama Chuy was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as a grandmother.
Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children and grandchildren strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. As her health declined, she often repeated to her children her wish to be buried by her son Manuel. In her last years, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and multiple ailments.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
