Maria Del Carmen Minnis

August 4, 1940 — August 27, 2014

Maria Del Carmen Minnis, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with heart disease.

Maria was born in Ubrique, Spain on August 4, 1940, at the conclusion of the Spanish Civil War. Maria, Carmen, or Mama, as she was called by friends and family, was educated in Madrid, Spain and at the University of Seville, where she received her degree in Elementary Education. After receiving her degree, she married David Browne Minnis, the American Airman who gave her butterflies the 1st time they danced. In 1965, Maria, David, and their 10 month old daughter left Spain and relocated in Torrance, CA, where they continued to reside for the next 49 years. Although Maria spoke very little English when she arrived, she went on to earn her Real Estate License and become a top salesperson at Spring and Remax Realties. Despite her professional success, she eventually quit working to devote herself to raising her children and volunteering at their school activities.

Loved by all who met her, she will be missed and fondly remembered by the many friends she made throughout her lifetime, but especially by her family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, David Minnis, two daughters Monique Muller and Brenda Minnis-Lemley, four grandchildren Tyler and Trevor Muller and Ashley and Brittany Minnis-Lemley, and a brother and sister who reside in Seville, Spain.

A viewing will be held at Green Hills Mortuary 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 from 3-8 P.M.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday September 10 at the Green Hills Mortuary Chapel at 11 A.M.
