Maria "Maring" S. Arzadon, age 89, passed away from complications with pneumonia at St. John's Medical Center on Monday, January 18, 2016, surrounded by family. From her birth in the Philippines to her death on Monday in Oxnard, she nourished people with her love, care and happiness in life and in the expression of her exceptional skills in cooking. She was born in Lucban, a small town in the Quezon Province where she attended school up to the sixth grade until the start of WWII. It was during the early post war years that her beauty was swept up by Lucas Arzadon who was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, and within two weeks was the start of their marriage and building a new life in Wilmington, CA. Maring and Lucas spent over 40 years self-employed in food service from a small café to operating the cafeteria serving the factory workers on Terminal Island and catering for weddings, dances and festival booths. Together they raised a family of five children and opened their home as an offshore stop for youthful sailors and a budding Filipino community that continued to visit "Ate Maring" for lumpia, pancit, and adobo with their families until she became "nah nay" and then "Lola Maring". She was an active member of the Wilmington Filipino Community, Women's Auxillary, UFASO and participated in the Lucbanian and Illocanessas associations. Left to honor Maring and remember her love are her four surviving children, Marina (Chuck) Mosier, Evangeline (Larry) Arzadon-Smith, Patricia (Clif) Arzadon-Marshall and Fernando Arzadon. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Marq, Christina, Jasmin, Kayer, Hunter, Harrison and Hannah along with 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lucas Sr. and her beloved son Lucas Jr. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 28th at 1:00 pm at the Green Hills Memorial Chapel. The family will greet friends and relatives from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday for visitation and recital of the Rosary in the Green Hills Villetta Suite and again at the Green Hills Chapel on Thursday from 12:30 pm until the time of service.
