Maria “Esther” Rangel, passed on December 28, 2020, She was 89 years old. The Matriarch of the Family & often referred to by her family as the “Last of the Mohicans”, was born February 10, 1931 in Tucson AZ. As a young teen, her family made their way to California, where she resided in Wilmington CA until she met her Husband Manuel Rangel (deceased), they started a family and moved to San Pedro, where she resided until her death. Esther was Mother to Elizabeth (Liz), Camila (Millie), John (deceased), William & Mary Esther (deceased), Grandmother to 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren. She was Grandma to everyone on the block and to the friends of her grandchildren, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Before becoming a Mother, Esther would work at the Local Canneries. Esther loved to bake and cook for her family, especially for special occasions like Thanksgiving & Christmas, her kitchen was always stocked with homemade cookies and tamales. Her most requested dish, homemade Tortillas & Salsa Verde! She enjoyed music and would always have it playing in her home. She loved to dance, travel and the casinos… She definitely lived life to the fullest and on her terms. Just Shy of her 90th Birthday, She Was Already Planning her Birthday with Mariachis. Esther Also Leaves Behind her 106 Year Old Aunt Eleanor.
Camila Rangel, followed her Mother Esther on January 6, 2021, she was 68 years old. She was born in Torrance CA on September 1, 1952, the second oldest daughter to Manuel & Esther Rangel (both deceased). Best known as “Millie”, she was born with Down Syndrome, a disability that never hindered her ability of being independent, she was special in every way and her mother always said she was an “Angel sent from God”. She is survived by her Sister, Elizabeth (Liz) Perez and Brother William (Bill) Rangel, 8 Nieces & Nephews and 14 Great Nieces & Nephews. She was Auntie Millie to everyone who knew her. She LOVED Elvis & The 3 Stooges, Music, Dancing and the Casinos. Her passion was Bowling and was very serious about this sport! She always had a smile that could lite up a room, she was always the life of any party and never failed to make others laugh with her funny stories. She was truly the embodiment of unconditional love, adored & loved by everyone who knew her, the loved extended beyond her immediate family…including close family friends & neighbors from the block…she made an impact on everyone she met, including the nurses & caregivers who took care of her.
Millie passed away surrounded by love…leaving a void in our hearts, we send her off to Grandma, hand in hand where they both belong.
Funeral Services for Both Esther & Millie Rangel is Scheduled for Feb 10th, 2021 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro CA. Viewing will be held on Feb 8th, 2021 at Green Hills Memorial Park in San Pedro.
