Margaret Keane Heth

Margaret (Peggy) Heth passed away peacefully, surrounded by three generations of family members, on August 24, 2013. Peggy was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on April 15, 1922, the fourth of six children in a first generation Irish immigrant family. They moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where she met, fell in love with, and married Chester (Chet) Heth on November 15, 1947. Peggy and Chet moved to the West Coast, where Chet was employed in the aerospace industry for more than 50 years. They had happy homes in the Los Angeles and Seattle regions, depending upon where Chet was stationed. They eventually settled in Palos Verdes, which has been their home for more than 46 years.
Peggy raised her five children with love and a strong emphasis on their education. Peggy was an excellent cook, not fancy, but everything delicious. Her blueberry and pumpkin pies were famous throughout the extended family. Peggy and Chet were blessed with the opportunity to travel the world when the children were grown. Her travels included a safari in Africa, touring through Europe, exploring China (almost immediately after Americans were permitted), cruises to Hawaii and in the Caribbean, vacations to see solar eclipses, and a dream vacation around the world on the Concorde supersonic aircraft. Peggy was an avid gardener with an Irish green thumb, taking great pride in her fuchsias and rose garden. However, Peggy's favorite pastime was running her "charm school" for her toddler grandchildren. She would read, sing songs, and teach basic manners to any grandchild lucky enough to be enrolled in her "school."
Peggy is survived by Chet, her loving husband of more than 65 years, her children C. Donald Heth (Susan), Lorraine MacSwain (Neil), Carolyn Heth (John Baricevic), Rhonda Heth (Thomas Mabie), and Eileen Wehrle (Gary), eight grandchildren, Shannon, Glenn, Jonathan, Jennifer, Ryan, Alexis, Margaret, and Pierce, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Keane of Hingham, Massachusetts.
A private memorial service has been planned by the family.
